Marjorie Ann Bloom VanGilder passed away Sunday (Dec. 2, 2012).
She was born Sept. 15, 1923 in Fairmont to Clarence H. Bloom and Eva Lena Shafferman. She married C. Ray VanGilder on July 2, 1941 in Oakland, Md. They were sealed Aug. 14, 1969 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held many positions in the church, not limited to primary teacher and relief society president. She worked in the St. George LDS Temple for 14 years. Her favorite position was working with the new brides. She also worked in the extraction program from its inception. She loved doing family history and genealogy, reading, gardening and taking long trips with Ray. They made 32 trips cross country between Utah and West Virginia.
She is survived by her two sons, David R. (Sandra) VanGilder and Kevin J. (Kathy) VanGilder, both of St. George, Utah; daughter-in-law, Sue VanGilder of Fairmont; and daughter, Nancy (Greg) Newman of Las Vegas, Nev. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
In addition to Ray and her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John W. Bloom; sister, Elizabeth Bloom; son, Terry L. VanGilder; and daughter, Judith L. VanGilder.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the St. George LDS 16th Ward Chapel, 550 E. 700 South, St. George, Utah. Visitations will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 W. St. George Blvd., and on Friday, prior to services, from 10-10:45 a.m. at the chapel. Interment will follow at St. George City Cemetery.
