Guy Coniglio Sr.

Guy Coniglio Sr., 89, of Fairmont, passed away from medical complications Wednesday (July 3, 2013) at the Golden Living Rehabilitation Center in Morgantown, where he was admitted from Ruby Memorial Hospital for rehabilitation following a brief illness.

He was born in Fairmont on June 19, 1924, a son of the late Lire Nick and Daisy (Phillips) Coniglio.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Beatrice “Bea” (Kozul) Coniglio, in April of 2012.

Guy proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy during World War II as a carpenter’s mate 3rd Class. He was a coal miner by trade, retiring from Southern Ohio Coal Co.

In his earlier years, he worked for B & O Railroad, and he also was owner and operator of the 250 Club. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Fairmont, the UMWA and a former member of the VFW and Moose Lodge. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by one son, Guy Coniglio Jr. and his wife Sandy of Wilmington, N.C.; one daughter, Carol “Cookie” Arnett and her husband Frank of Fairmont; three grandchildren, David Guy Coniglio and his wife Heather of Mainville, Ohio, Shelley Miles and her husband Dr. David Miles, and Steven James Coniglio and his girlfriend Shannon Miller, all of Wilmington, N.C.; and six great-grandchildren, Ella Miles, Olivia Miles, Caroline Miles, Nicholas Coniglio, Matthew Coniglio and Micah Coniglio.

Also surviving is a brother, Louie Coniglio of Fairmont; two sisters, Mary C. Wilson of Fairmont and Virginia Prickett of Barrackville; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Coniglio Jr.; a brother-in-law, Lawrence Prickett; and two sisters-in-law, Amanda Coniglio and Mildred C. Coniglio.

Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, on Sunday from 1-8 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Fairmont with Fr. Steve Joseph presiding. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Fairmont, where full military honors will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Council Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Immaculate Conception Church Building Fund, c/o parking lot project, 329 Maryland Ave., Fairmont, WV 26554.
