Dannie R. Hays

Dannie Ralph Hays, 75, of Fredericksburg, Va., passed away Thursday (July 11, 2013) at his residence.

Mr. Hays was a native of Fairmont and had served in the U.S. Air Force. He was an electrical engineer having recently retired from Motion Control in Fredericksburg, Va.

Mr. Hays was a member and former deacon of Spotsylvania Baptist Church. He was also a member of GWRRA Motorcycle Club and enjoyed NASCAR, hunting and West Virginia University basketball and football.

Survivors include his wife, Carole B. Hays; three children, Jennifer Haddix and her husband Paul of Ft. Ashby, Richard Hays of Caroline County, Va., and Joe Hays and his wife Joyce of Spotsylvania County, Va.; two stepchildren, Sarah McDaniel of Mineral, Va., and Todd McDaniel of Caroline, Va.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Twila Wooddell of Fairmont, and Pearl Tucker of Polk City, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Maureen Hays; two infant daughters; parents, Dan E. and Elmira Hays; two sisters, Vivian Baxter and Della Hays; and a grandson, Christopher McDaniel.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, Va., and one hour prior to the service which will be held at noon Saturday at the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mary Washington Hospice, 5012 Southpoint Parkway, Fredericksburg, VA 22407.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
