Marvin Dale Tennant

Marvin Dale Tennant, 90, of Jakes Run, passed away in his home on Wednesday (July 10, 2013) surrounded by loved ones.

He was born June 18, 1923, at Jakes Run, a son of the late Chuck and Gladys Moore Tennant.

Dale was a World War II veteran having served in the United States Army and was honored with two Purple Hearts.

“Jeffro” retired from Consol, Osage No. 3 mine in 1985.

He was a faithful attendant of Jakes Run Assembly of God and a longtime member of the Clay-Battelle Lions Club, 29L.

Throughout Dale’s life he enjoyed being Santa to many families, coaching Jakes Run Bronco basketball teams, farming, fishing, riding his four-wheeler, selling Lions Club nuts and attending the Daybrook Fair. Dale never met a stranger, enjoyed visiting with his neighbors and had a special love for small children.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Frank Rose; two granddaughters and their spouses, Debbie and Mark Copeland, and Lisa and Bryan Raber. He was Pop Moo to three great-grandchildren, Stephanie and Derek (Buckshot) Copeland and Bryson Raber.

Also surviving are his special in-laws, Rich and Judy Eddy of Daybrook, John Eddy of Bridgeport, Mary Ann and Don Tennant of Core, Linda and Paul Donaldson of Petersburg, along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Eiline; one sister, Gail Yost; and two brothers, Carl Tennant and Jack Tennant.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Morgantown Hospice and his nurse Karen for their care and support and to his devoted care givers, Joey and Ernie.

Friends may call at the Owen-Neely Funeral Home in Blacksville from 4-9 p.m. today. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Rose Saunders officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Luke Cemetery at Mooresville.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
