Ethel Michna

Ethel Mae Michna, 83, of Monongah, died on Thursday (Dec. 19, 2013), at Fairmont General Hospital.

She was born March 16, 1930, in Beaty’s Mill, near Mannington, daughter of the late Leonard “Doc” and Bessie “Ocie” (Wright) Stevens.

Ethel attended the Stringtown Grade School and graduated from Mannington High School in 1948. She was employed as a dispatcher for the Mannington Taxi Service, a clerk for the Woolworth Department Store, and worked in the Lamp Plant and Sealed Beam Division at Westinghouse Electric for 45 years.

In her youth, Ethel attended the Stringtown United Methodist Church. She converted to Catholicism, and became a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church and the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Monongah. She was also a member and active participant in the Ladies Society.

She is survived by her son, Adam F. Michna II of Monongah; a brother, Clifford E. Stevens of Rivesville; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Adam F. Michna, whom she married on June 11, 1960, at the Stanislaus Catholic Church in Monongah, by the Rev. Everette F. Briggs. Her husband died on September 30, 2000.

Friends and family may call at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave. in Fairmont, from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, and 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a Vigil Service being held at 2 p.m. Sunday. A Solemn Requiem Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, with Father Richard Ulam, O.S.B. as Celebrant. Interment will follow at the Shinnston Masonic Cemetery.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
