Alice Martin

Alice Pearl Martin, 78, of Four States, recently a resident of the Tygart Center of Fairmont, passed away on Friday (Dec. 20, 2013), at United Hospital Center in Bridgeport.

She was born on Nov. 10, 1935, at Four States, a daughter of the late Herman Martin and Delphia Mae (Jones) Martin.

Alice was formerly employed at Hando’s Restaurant, and later the Igloo Restaurant in Fairmont. She was a Methodist by faith.

She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Naomi “June” and Ronald Miller; her sister, Goldie Martin all of Four States; a sister-in-law, Carrie Jayne Martin of Monongah; a brother-in-law, Myron Vincent of Fairmont; and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her brothers, Harold Martin and his wife Virginia, and James Martin; her sisters, Rebecca “Becky” Vincent, Leanda Martin, and Betty Flint and her husband Brent.

Friends and family may call at the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home today from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Monday from 11 a.m. to noon. The funeral service will be at noon on Monday with Pastor Sabrina Haught officiating. Interment services will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
