Frances Davis

Word was received of the passing of Frances Ozie Davis on June 14, 2013, in Roseberg, Ore., following a heart attack.

Frances was born in Gypsy, W.Va., on Jan. 2, 1933, the daughter of the late Stanley and Stella Vanet Ozie.

She graduated from Shinnston High School, Class of 1950, enlisted in the Air Force in 1953, trained in Texas and Wyoming, and was stationed in Japan for two years. Frances was honorably discharged in 1955 as Airman 2nd Class Communications Specialist. Her love of travel and adventurous spirit led her to live and work in West Virginia, Michigan, Ohio, California and Arizona, and she finally settled in Sutherlin, Ore.

Frances is survived by her sisters, Helen Woodson and husband Jim of Phoenix, Ariz., and Mary Manzo of Monongah; and a brother, Pete Ozie and Julia of Fairmont and their families.

In addition to her parents, Frances was preceded in death by an infant brother, Edward; her aunt, Julia Falarski; her uncle, Jess Vanet; and a brother-in-law, Raymond Manzo.

At her request, Frances was brought back to the hills of West Virginia to rest at the Shinnston Masonic Cemetery. Deacon David Lester officiated at a graveside ceremony and her great niece, Kailee Jo Latocha, sang “Amazing Grace.”
