Alonzo “Pete” Coy King Sr., 88, of McCurdysville, passed away Saturday (Aug. 3, 2013) at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born Sept. 30, 1924, in Brady, a son of the late Asa King and Nellie (Raye) King.
He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Dorothy “Dot” (Potts) King.
He served 20 years with the U.S. Army. Following his retirement from the Army, he worked as a truck driver for general delivery in Fairmont. He was a life member of the VFW Post 7048. He enjoyed fishing and hauling junk.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Kevin Lee and his wife Vicki of Worthington, Mike Shannon and his wife Lisa of Fairview, Carl King of McCurdysville, and Alonzo “J.R.” King and his wife Kristen of Virginia Beach; his daughters, Lisa Long and her husband Tim of Morgantown, Jerlyn Strattan and her husband Eric of Hazelton, Tracey Corbin of Morgantown, Debra Bone of McCurdysville, and Kelly Jones and her husband Jake of McCurdysville; 25 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents, Pete was preceded in death by a sister, Viola Sipe; a brother, Howard King; and a grandson, Mason Jones.

Friends may call at Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 1-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10-11 a.m. Thursday. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday with Pastor Jim Zinn officiating. Interment will follow at the West Virginia National Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Marion County Veterans Council Military Honor Guard.
