Robert Goff

Robert Forrest Goff, 50, of Opekiska Community, Fairmont, passed away Thursday (June 6, 2013) as the result of an accident in Fairmont.

He was born in Fairmont, on Feb. 9, 1963, a son of Forrest Gene and Kathryn Darlene (Harbert) Goff of Joes Run.

Robert proudly served his country with the U.S. Army as a Pvt. 1st Class and was stationed in Ft. Dix, N.J., and Germany.

He was a truck driver by trade, working for Reclaim LLC of Fairmont and also for SOS Salvage. He also worked in the logging industry in Randolph County.

He attended Morgantown High School. He was a member of Mt. Harmony Community Church in Fairmont and Beech Mountain Sportsman Club in Czar, W.Va. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing and four-wheeling.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his children, Natasha Myers and her husband David, Bethanny Goff, and Jeremiah Goff and his companion Sklyer; one grandchild, Kaydrian Padfield; his companion, Christina Carpenter; and his step-children, Bryer Tucker, Tyelar Nuzum, Christy Gower and her husband Justin, and Joci Tucker.

Also surviving are two sisters, Susan Perkins and her husband Robert Wayne, and Diana Tascarella; a brother, Benjamin Goff; nieces and nephews, Mandie and Jason VanGilder and their children, Amber, Cole and Sara, Adam Mayle and his companion Kendra Stout, and Jessika and Jennifer McIe; aunts and uncles, Carol Robey, Lurella Maxey, Otovea Navonda Hayhurst and her husband William, Ricky Harbert and Hubert Harrison; and two great-aunts, Virginia Cutright Tennant and Minnie Evelyn Goff Harbert.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Alison Gay Goff McIe; his grandparents, Forrest Brock and Jeanette Jean Cutright Goff, and Robert Earl and Novonda Zirkle Harbert; three uncles, Daniel B. Goff, Billy Robey and Robert Maxey; and an aunt, Rachel Goff Harrison.

Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 2-8 p.m. on Sunday and from 10-11 a.m. Monday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Monday, with Pastor Ruth Hall officiating. Military honors will be conducted at the funeral home following the service by the Marion County Veterans Council Honor Guard.

Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11, at the Pine Grove United Methodist Church in Czar in Randolph County. Interment will follow at the Pine Grove Cemetery.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
