Pearl Perkins

Pearl Dale Shaffer Perkins, 91, of Haymond Street, Fairmont, passed away early in the afternoon Saturday (March 16, 2013) in the John Manchin Healthcare Center.

She was born June 2, 1921, in Quiet Dell (Marion County), daughter of the late Cecil and Gay Vincent Shaffer.

Mrs. Perkins was a former employee of G.C. Murphy Co. of Fairmont as a cook with 21 years of service. She enjoyed various activities including cooking, working with flowers and bird watching.

She also enjoyed family outings and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include five children, Dale and Nan Perkins of Bath, N.Y., Sandra and Bill Coffindaffer of Jane Lew, Shirley and George Knisely of Martinsburg, Stephen and Freda Perkins of Jane Lew, and Janice and Dave Stephenson of South Prairie, Wash.; one sister, Virginia Jackson of Fairmont; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews with a special niece, Sharon Boyce Moody of Fairmont.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Clyde, Howard, Owen, Virgil and Sammy Shaffer; and two sisters, Gladys Boyce and Naomi Shaffer.

At the request of Mrs. Perkins, the family will have cremation services. A private family memorial service will follow at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
