Robert Mundell

Robert Edward Mundell, 83, of Fairmont, passed away Thursday (April 25, 2013) at the West Virginia Veteran’s Nursing Facility in Clarksburg.

He was born June 24, 1929, in Fairmont, son of the late Denzil and Pauline (Carey) Mundell.

Robert was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was the part owner of Mundell Machine Shop and also employed at Morgantown Machine. Robert was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He and his wife volunteered on a church mission trip for six months in 1993 to a Sioux Indian reservation in Eagle Butte, S.D. Robert was very artistic, enjoyed woodworking and loved music.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Belt) Mundell; four children, Daniel Mundell, Deborah Sweet and husband Gary, Donald Lee Mundell and wife Wendy, and Richard Mundell, all of Fairmont. He is also survived by a sister, Betty Flint and husband Jack of Colfax; 10 grandchildren, Kari, Kris, Heather, Joshua, Brittany, Brett, Richard Michael Jr., Alexis Dawn, Atlanta Brooke and Carson Von; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Mundell.

The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave., Fairmont, from 1-8 p.m. today. The body will lie in state at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Fairmont from 1-2 p.m. Saturday. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church with Chuck Shields officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens with full military rites being performed at graveside by the Marion County Veterans Council.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
