Vivian Ileen Knight, 89, of Mannington, went to be with our heavenly father with her family by her side Thursday (May 9, 2013) at Fairmont General Hospital.
She was born in Easton, Texas, on Oct. 19, 1923, a daughter of the late Ivan and Dessie (Shreve) Cartwright.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert E. Knight, in 1979.
Vivian was a loving homemaker. She was loved by all her family and church family. She loved traveling to different places to spend time with her nieces and nephews. She always loved to cook for family and church dinners. She was famous for her homemade chicken dumplings. She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy for more than 40 years and a missionary leader for several years.
She is survived by a brother, Kenneth Eugene “Gene” Cartwright and his wife Mary of Fairmont; a sister-in-law, Jean Cartwright of Farmington; and many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews and great-great-nieces and -nephews, including two nieces, Sharon Clelland and Fanny Garrison, who made sure she was cared for in all ways.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Leland Cartwright, C. Albert Cartwright, Dale Cartwright, David Cartwright and Charles Ivan Cartwright; and two sisters, Genelda Loraine Hern and Velma Pearl Cartwright.
Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 4-8 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 1 p.m. Monday with Pastor Nieta Lambert and Pastor Harry Copen officiating. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover.
The family would like to thank all the nurses and staff who took care of her at Fairmont General Hospital on 3A and 3B as well as the staff in the ICU for all their wonderful care, especially Crystal, Kendra and Susan.
