Charles “Sonny” Barta, 76, of Bingamon, formerly of Idamay, passed away peacefully on Monday (March 31, 2014) at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown with his family at his side.
He was born Dec. 10, 1937, in Idamay, a son of the late Steve Sr. and Stella Tossone Barta.
Sonny retired from the Owen-Illinois Glass Factory, and was a loving father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather and a special friend to so many who knew him.
He is survived by his companion, Janet Martin of Bingamon; a daughter and son-in-law, Lena and Mike McKinzie of Idamay; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Eleanor Reed of Idamay; a brother, Steve Barta Jr. of Idamay; a sister, Lucy Wells of Monongah; his grandchildren, Mikie and Danny McKinizie, Misty Shultz, Gena and Mike Runner, Krista Hamrick, David and Rachel Reed, and Amber Reed; as well as several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Ida “Toots” Barta; a brother, Nick Barta; and his daughter, Dorothy Hamrick.
Sonny was a devoted companion, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He loved spending time with his family and friends, each of them having a special place in his heart. He especially loved the Pittsburgh Steelers.
