Jack Lee Hedges

Jack Lee Hedges, formerly of Fairmont, lost his battle with cancer on Wednesday (March 27, 2013) at 6 p.m. Jack fought a good fight, stayed the course and now on this holy week he’s with our Heavenly Father.

Jack’s family loves him and respects the husband and father he was. Jack served his country in the United States Marine Corp. He was awarded several campaign ribbons from his time served in Vietnam.

Jack’s hobby was working in his yard and walking his dogs, Zack and Molly. He enjoyed playing poker with his friends and watching sports on TV, but most of all enjoyed spending time with his family at the beach.

Jack was predeceased by his parents, Bruce Hedges of Fairmont and Flora Tennant of Cleveland, Ohio.

He leaves his wife of 50 years, Karen S. Hedges; daughter, Shellie Edington (Chris) of Columbus, Ohio; son, Eric Hedges (Carole) of Huntsville, Ala.; grandchildren, Erica and Jackson Hedges of Chelsea, Ala., Laikyn and Dalton Mosley of Huntsville, Ala., and Kelsey, Kallie and Kayla Edington of Columbus, Ohio; brother, Paul Ravencroft (Norma) of Henderson, Neb.; special cousin, Shirley Cole of Fairmont; brothers-in-law, Roger Rhoades of Fairmont and James Rhoades (Marilyn) of Fairview, who traveled from West Virginia to spend time helping and taking care of Jack; sisters-in-law, Veda Leal of Florida and Renee Eddy (Mark) of Wheeling; and a host of nieces and nephews.

There will be a visitation at 11:30 a.m. and a Celebration of Life Service following at noon at the First United Methodist Church of Alabaster, 1903 Alabama Highway 119, Alabaster, Ala., on Monday, April 1. A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. at the Alabama National Cemetery the same day. Pastor Brian Erickson will be officiating.

The family would like to thank the staff of Hematology of Brookwood, Hospice Services of Alabama and the many friends who stopped by or called.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jack’s name to the American Cancer Society or the First United Methodist Church of Alabaster.
