Basil was a Christian and touched the lives of many people and maintained his sense of humor to the end. He loved his family, had lots of friends and never met a stranger. He loved to work hard and have fun. In his younger years he was involved in Boy Scouts as a scout leader, loved going camping and constructing miniature town and train sets. He enjoyed going to town and working on cars.

Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service at 1 p.m. Saturday at Samaria Free Methodist Church, Pricketts Creek Road, with Pastor Steve Stemple presiding. At the conclusion of the memorial service, a private family gathering will be held at Hopewell Cemetery in order to carry out Basil’s final wishes.

The family would like to thank the Hospice staff, Lisa Hines, Lonnie Newbraugh, Heather Loughery, Staci Minor and Marci Nigh, for all the care and help to Basil and his family. The world needs more loving and caring people.

The family would also like to take this time to express their greatest appreciation to Paul M. VanGilder for all the loving care he gave his father-in-law, our father, during his time of need. Thank you so much. We know it meant a lot to him.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
