Catherine Sanders

Catherine Sanders, 101, of Worthington, passed away Friday (March 29, 2013) at the Tygart Center at Fairmont.

She was born in Redstone, Pa., on July 7, 1911, a daughter of the late Bendik and Anna (Gal) Saler.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Sanders, in December 1985.

Catherine was a loving homemaker, mother and grandmother. She was a member of the Fairmont Eagles Club.

She is survived by a stepson, James Saunders and his wife Dorothy of Worthington; and five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are a brother, Ben Saler of Tulsa, Okla.; two sisters-in-law, Clara Saler of Gypsy and Mary Sanders of Fairmont; and several nieces and nephews and their families.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Frank Sailor, John Sailor, Steve Saler and Joseph Saler in infancy; three sisters, Rose Sailor, Elizabeth Noshagya and Ann Garibaldi; and a sister-in-law, Jean Saler.

Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 5-8 p.m. today and from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Wednesday with Pastor Carl Radcliff officiating. Interment will follow at IOOF Cemetery in Enterprise.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Tygart Center in Fairmont for all their loving care of Catherine the last 10 years and also Amedisys Hospice, especially caregiver Tammy.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
