Lina ‘Tudy’ Turek

Lina “Tudy” Turek, 91, of Benton’s Ferry, passed away Saturday (Feb. 2, 2013) at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

She was born Nov. 3, 1921 in Schotten OBH, Germany, the daughter of the late Peter Conrad Beck and Margaret Sorger Beck. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Pete Turek.

Mrs. Turek was a Lutheran by faith. She served in the German Air Force as a radio operator. She was a homemaker and previously served as a cashier for the Shumaker Market in Fairmont.

Lina is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret G. and Jerry Moore of Mannington; as well as a stepson and daughter-in-law, John P. and Luellen Turek of Council Bluffs, Iowa.

She is survived by a granddaughter and her husband, Aimee D. and Jimmy Toothman of Mount Zion Community; by three great-grandchildren, Lucas, Jerrod and Tyler Toothman; five step-grandchildren, Ullete, Josh, Kaleb, Rachelle and Elisha Turek; as well as several step-great-grandchildren. She also is survived by close friends, Charlotte Lawler and Mary Ann Freeman.

Lina was preceded in death by three brothers, Wilhem, Peter and Fritz Beck; one sister, Berta Wentzel; as well as by a grandson, Jerrod Roy Moore; and a step-granddaughter, Tasha Turek.

The family would like to give a special thanks to her caregivers, Toni Iaquinta and Conchetta and Steve of Conchetta’s Assisted Living.

Friends and family may call Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, from 4-9 p.m. today. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 10 a.m. Wednesday with Pastor Matt Holbert officiating. The committal service will follow in Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Thomas at 2 p.m.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
