Hazel Brewer

Hazel Marie Brewer, 74, of Pricketts Fort Road, Fairmont, passed away Thursday (July 25, 2013) at the Sundale Nursing Home in Morgantown.

She was born in Fairmont, on May 7, 1939, a daughter of the late Ray Faulkiner and Marie (Harris) Faulkiner Francis.

Hazel was a loving homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. In her earlier years, she had worked at Hartley’s Department Store in Fairmont.

She was Protestant by faith. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School and Bible School at Willow Tree Baptist Church in the 1960s, watching television, working on arts and crafts, and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a 4-H Club leader in the early 1970s.

She is survived by one daughter, Brenda Vincent and her husband Bud of Fairmont, with whom she made her home with and were also her caregivers; one son, Donald Brewer Jr. and his companion Peggy “Dee” Clutter and her children John and Shawna; four grandchildren, Joshua Vincent and his wife Leeann of Fairmont, Jason “Jay” Vincent and his wife Jennifer of Fairmont, Justin Vincent and his companion Heather Polisi-Boilet of Kansas, and Michael Miller of Fairmont; and four great-grandchildren, Kiley and Keaton Linger and Nevaeh and Maverick Vincent.

Also surviving is a brother, Jerry Faulkiner and his wife Yvonne of Fairmont, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Jerry and Eula Harris and John and Rebecca Faulkiner, and a stepfather, Theodore Shimskey.

Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, on Sunday from 5-8 p.m. and Monday from noon-2 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 2 p.m. with Pastor Rick Price officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Fairmont.

The family would like to thank Hospice Care Corp. of Fairmont and Morgantown for all of their wonderful care of Hazel.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
