Donald Butcher

Donald Ray Butcher, 79, of Idamay, passed away Monday (Sept. 16, 2013) at Fairmont General Hospital.

He was born Jan. 12, 1934, at Clarksburg, a son of the late Joseph and Marie Shanks Butcher.

Donald was a 1952 graduate of Monongah High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from Consolidation Coal Co.’s Blacksville No. 2 mine after 33 years of service as a coal miner. Donald enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and liked to “tinker.”

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Dollie Mae Engle Butcher, whom he married May 27, 1955; three children, Carl Butcher and wife Kathy of Idamay, Tina Massacci and husband Roger of Fairmont, and Joseph Butcher and wife Carla of Idamay; sisters, Eunice Collins of Worthington and Beverly Thompson of Woodbridge, Va.; two grandchildren, Lauren Massacci and Andrew Massacci; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Jo Lough and Delores Beals.

Friends may call at Hutson Funeral Home in Farmington from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Fairmont.
