William “Mark” Dunigan

William “Mark” Dunigan, 57, of Mannington, died Wednesday (Sept. 25, 2013) at UPMC Hospital in Pittsburgh following an extended illness.

He was born Aug. 16, 1956, in Fairmont, a son of the late William Joseph and Virginia Louise Kennedy Dunigan.

Mark was a disabled coal miner, having worked for Eastern Association Coal Co.’s JoAnn Mine. He was a lifetime member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Mannington, where he served as an usher and Eucharistic Minister.

A very talented drummer, Mark joined the American Federation Musicians Union at the age of 11 and played music with many local bands, especially “Cross Fire.” He was a former member of the Mannington Fire Department and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Holy Family Council 11890, where he had served as chapter financial secretary, and held the office of Grand Knight for 15 years. He was a member of the Elks Lodge for more than 30 years, serving as loyal knight chair for 15 years, and the Moose Lodge 1344 for over 33 years. He was also a member of the Moose Legion No. 52, the Ancient Order of Hyberians in Pittsburgh, the Marion County Democratic Men’s Club and the Buffalo Valley Association Inc.

Survivors include his wife, Iris Yankie Dunigan, whom he married Nov. 29, 1974; a son, Joseph “Joey” Dunigan, Metz; a daughter and son-in-law, Iris “Corinne” and Kenny Hayes, Plum Run; two brothers, Denny Dunigan and wife Shirley of Metz and Tim Dunigan and wife Christina of Mannington; five grandchildren, Kade, Maddie and Graham Hayes, McKaleigh and Ashton Dunigan; his mother-in-law, Jean Yankie of Mannington; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by a sister, Monica Dunigan Templeton.

Friends may call at the Hutson Funeral Home, 500 E. Main St., Mannington, from 2 to 9 p.m. today. A biblical wake service will be held in the funeral home at 8:15 p.m. today. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Douglas B. Sutton as celebrant. Interment will be in the Mannington Cemetery.
