Mrs. Mary Christine Connor “Memaw” Finzel, 79, of Enterprise, passed away at her home surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Finzel was born Aug. 16, 1934, in Mount Clare, a daughter of the late Howard Robert and Bessie “Betty” Maebelle Koon Connor.
She was active in many clubs and organizations in Monongah High School, member of the Monongah High School and Fairmont State College marching band, member of all Fairmont State College educational organizations, assisted librarian at Fairmont State College while attending, winner of the Golden Horseshoe Award, a Fairmont State College scholarship recipient, member of the 4-H, graduated from Fairmont State College in 1955, continued her education at WVU, a lifelong believer and practicing Methodist, and lovingly gave of herself not only to her family and friends but also to all her students.
She is survived by her son, John Thomas Finzel of Enterprise; daughter, Jane Anne “Janey” Finzel of Enterprise; grandson, Connor Cianfrocca of Enterprise, two sisters, Josephine Clise of Randalman, N.C., and Jean Meredith of Tallmadge, Ohio; and brother, Pat Connor of Fairmont.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas G. Finzel, on April 4, 2006; two sisters, Betty Garrett and Jaqueline Kress; brother, Robert F. Connor; and nieces, Rebecca Jan Garrett, Deborah Ruth Meredith, Sarah Elizabeth “Betsy” Long and Nancy Greer.
Family and friends may call at Davis Funeral Home, W.Va. Route 98, Clarksburg, from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday from the Chapel of Davis Funeral Home with Minister Michael Richards officiating. Entombment will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
