— Edward F. Vasicek, 95, of Rivesville, passed from this life into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday (March 3, 2014).

He was born Oct. 3, 1918, a son of the late Carl F. and Leona Orfanus Vasicek. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Vasicek.

Edward was a quiet, God-fearing man, thinking of others always before himself. He was a gift to his family, and his family was the joy of his heart. He loved to see each of them do well.

Mr. Vasicek was a 1936 graduate of Grafton High School and served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He retired from Eastern Associated Coal Co., Federal No. 1 of Grant Town, where he worked as a coal miner. Edward was Protestant by faith and enjoyed gardening and working outdoors.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Vasicek of Rivesville; his son, Richard “Dickie” Vasicek and his wife Patti of Fairmont; his daughter, Phyllis “Jeannie” Stewart and her husband Harry of Rivesville; two sisters, Anna Lough of Fairmont and Elizabeth Chapman of Bridgeport; four grandchildren, Renae Jimmie of White Hall, Dr. Richard E. Vasicek and his wife Dee Dee of White Hall, Steven E. Stewart and his wife Marsha of Independence, and Kimberly Abruzzino and her husband Michael of White Hall; nine great-grandchildren, Hannah Vasicek, Hope Vasicek, Noah Vasicek, Easton Jimmie, Gabriel Jimmie, Ethan Stewart, Adriana Abruzzino, Mia Abruzzino and Luke Abruzzino; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Edward was preceded in death by his three brothers, Carl Vasicek, Lewis Vasicek and George Vasicek; and two sisters, Rose Deering and Leona Stevenski.

The family will receive friends at Ford Funeral Home, DeGarmo Chapel, 207 Second St., Rivesville, from 2-8 p.m. today and from 10-11 a.m. Thursday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Thursday with Patti Vasicek officiating. A committal service will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Fairmont.
