Stewart Cathell Sr.

Stewart William Cathell Sr., 70, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, formerly of Grafton, was a loving father and friend to many.  

He passed away Sunday (Aug. 25, 2013), at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center, after many years of fighting a terminal lung illness.

He was born Sept. 24, 1942, in Tappan Booths, a son of the late Stewart Andrew Cathell and Opal (Stewart) Cathell.  

His wife, Geraldine F. (Wilhelm) Cathell, preceded him in death June 19, 1996.

Mr. Cathell was a retired truck driver, having been employed at Jones Motor Freight. He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 24. He was a Vietnam veteran, having served in the U.S. Army.  He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and the Moose Lodge. Stewart was a people person and enjoyed talking to everyone; he enjoyed vacationing at the beach.

Surviving are one daughter, Katrina Fasone and husband Russell; one son, Stewart W. Cathell Jr. of Grafton; five grandchildren, James George and Matthew George, both of Grafton, and Misty Cathell, Boomer Cathell and Joey Fasone, all of Ohio; three great-grandchildren, Hayden Fasone, Emmalynn Fasone and Stormy Cathell; three sisters, Gayenell Peters and husband Carroll Wayne of Grafton, Sharon Cathell Wright and husband Gary of Fairmont, and Janice Cathell and husband Will of Fairmont; and two brothers, Harry Cathell and wife Dina, and Garry Cathell and wife Beverly, all of Grafton.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Tammy George.

At his request, Mr. Cathell will be cremated. Graveside services will be conducted at the West Virginia National Cemetery at 10 a.m. Wednesday with Father Jim O’Connor officiating. Inurnment to follow at the cemetery.

Military graveside services will be accorded by the VFW Memorial City Post No. 3081, American Legion Taylor County Post No. 12, Central West Virginia DAV Chapter 24, and their auxiliaries, and the West Virginia Army National Guard of Camp Dawson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the American Lung Association, 2102 Kanawha Blvd. East, Charleston, WV 25311.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
