Carl Stewart

Carl Lee Stewart, 61, of the Bramwell Community, formerly of Fairmont, entered his eternal home Monday (Sept, 23, 2013) after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on Sept, 30, 1952, son of the late James (Red) and Evelyn J. Stewart. Carl graduated from East Fairmont High in 1970 and served with the U.S. Air Force.

He was a devoted Christian by faith and found his strength in God. He worked at the Marion County Senior Center and Presort Plus, and was a member of several gospel groups. Carl enjoyed spending time with family and friends with long talks, laughter, playing cards with his granddaughters, and talking backward with his niece and nephew. He had an unconditional love of prayer and music, playing his guitar and singing, working on computers and around the house.

He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Lonnie Colebank of Grafton; niece, Sarah Colebank of Grafton; nephew, Jesse Colebank of Grafton; three stepdaughters and their husbands, Misty Lynn and John Lemasters of Rock Lake, Elizabeth Ann and Walter Mundell of McCurdysville, and Shelia Ann Cleaver of Fairmont; five grandchildren, Paige Lemasters and Kendra Lemasters of Rock Lake, Travis Davis and his wife Katie of Baxter, Merissa Mundell of McCurdysville, and Michael Cleaver of Fairmont.

In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his former wife, Freda Davis-Stewart.

In honoring Carl’s wishes, cremation had been chosen as his final disposition. Family and friends will honor his life with a memorial service at Freedom Fellowship Church on Nov. 2, at 2 p.m., with dinner following service, Pastor Lonnie Colebank and Pastor Melinda Suplita officiating.

The Frey Home for Funerals is handling the arrangements.

Condolences may be sent to the family at either fhff320@aol.com or www.freyhomeforfunerals.com.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
