Mark Nigh

Mark David Nigh, 60, of Fairmont, passed away Friday (Oct. 11, 2013), at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, after a brief illness.

Mark was born June 4, 1953 in Fairmont, son of Ernestine Nigh of Fairmont and the late David M. Nigh.

Mark is survived by two children, James H. Nigh of Vienna, and Jessica A. Hickman and husband JT Hickman, and foster grandson of Parkersburg; mother of his children, Rebecca A. Nigh of Vienna; a brother, John A. Nigh and wife Kathleen; niece, Emily A. Nigh; nephew, J.C. Nigh and wife Marcie, all of Fairmont; a great-grandnephew, Mitchell Nigh; great-grandniece, Macey Nigh; a special aunt, June Eddy; and uncle, John W. Bonner, all of Fairmont; and special friends, Dr. Clyde Wilcox and Dr. Maurice Prendergast.

Mark was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dr. Rev. J. William Bonner and Mr. and Mrs. James H. Nigh, and a grandniece, Julia Nigh.

Mark was a graduate of East Fairmont High School, He obtained a B.A. in Political Science from West Virginia University, and a Juris Doctor from West Virginia College of Law. Mark practiced law in Philippi for several years. Mark was an instructor in business law at Alderson-Broaddus University, instructor in paralegal studies at Webster Junior College and an instructor of criminal law at West Virginia Business College.

While attending high school and college, he was a national debater, having won many trophies. Mark was a top salesperson for West Virginia’s largest Lincoln/Mercury dealership, and was an Inner Circle Award winner for 1995 and top 20 in sales and customer satisfaction nationally. Recently, Mark was working as a real estate title abstractor.  

Mark was a Christian by faith, and attended First Baptist Church in Fairmont. Mark frequently sang in choirs and did solo work for many churches during his life. Mark had a great love for music. Mark had been a deacon, chairman of trustees and choir director of the Baptist Church in Philippi.

Friends may call at Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. today. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Monday in First Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held in the church Monday at 11 a.m., with Pastor Valerie Gittings, Pastor Bob Barker and Dr. Rev. Holley Faulkner officiating.  Burial will follow in Shinnston Masonic Cemetery in Shinnston.  

The family requests that memorial donations be left to East Fairmont High School Choral Department, 1993 Airport Road, Fairmont, WV 26554.
