James Walker Sr.

James Jay Walker Sr., 64, of McCurdysville, was called to go home Saturday (Oct. 26, 2013).

James was born Jan. 31, 1949, in McCurdysville, son of the late Evangelist William Thurl and Icie Lourine Guthrie Walker.

James was a member of Mooresville Church of Christ. He was retired from Forquer Construction Co. where he was employed as an electrician, and was a member of the UMWA. James loved spending time with his loving wife, children and grandchildren.

James is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Ruth Jane Dixion Walker; one son, James Jay Walker Jr. of McCurdysville; a daughter, Jamie Renee Walker Niebergall and her husband Jay Corey Niebergall of McCurdysville; six grandchildren, Victoria Foley-Walker, Michaela Elizabeth Walker, Tucker Jay Walker, Emileigh Jane Walker, Sydney Nycole Niebergall and Dakota Raine Niebergall; a brother-in-law, John C. Thompson of Fairmont; a former daughter-in-law, Tracie E. Walker; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Evelyn Thompson, and a grandson, Colton James Walker.

Family and friends may call at Domico Funeral Home, Curry Chapel, Fairview, from 6-8 p.m. today, from 1-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with Evangelist Nick Dieger officiating. Burial will follow at McCurdysville Cemetery.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
