Emily Buda

Emily I. Buda, 87, of 1688 Mary Lou Retton Drive, Fairmont, died Thursday (Aug. 22, 2013).

She was born Aug. 29, 1925, in Homestead, Pa., the fifth daughter of Robert and Emily Miller Strang. She was the widow of Joseph Anthony Buda, whom she was married to for 39 years.

Emily devoted her life to her family and helped her husband with the family business they owned and operated (Buda Plumbing and Heating) for 24 years in Morgantown.

After retiring, Joseph and Emily moved to Clearwater, Fla. Emily devoted her retirement to helping take care of others in a local nursing home. Upon her husband’s death, she returned to West Virginia in 1993 to be with her family. For the past seven years, she made her home with her eldest daughter, Joellen, and her granddaughter, Amy, and her two great-grandsons.

Survivors include her children, Joellen Poling and Joseph E. “Jay” Buda of Fairmont and Sally Sue and Don Cutlip of Royersford, Pa.; six grandchildren, Brent Poling of Charleston, S.C., Amy Poling of Fairmont, Christina Cutlip and Gina Grandy of Royersford, Pa., and Anthony and Israel Buda of Atlanta, Ga.; and two great-grandchildren, Logan and Noah. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Anthony Buda, and two sisters.

Emily has chosen cremation as her final disposition. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave. in Fairmont, is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be sent online to www.domicofh.com.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
