Anthony Ray Carni, 46, of Spotsylvania, Va., passed away Thursday (Aug. 22, 2013).
He was born March 30, 1967, in Fairmont, a son of Donna J. Pigott Carni-Nuzum and John Lee Carni. Anthony had lived in Spotsylvania, Va., for the last 25 years.
He is survived by his mother, Donna J. Carni-Nuzum, and his brother, John A. Carni.
He was preceded in death by his father, John L. Carni; grandparents, Nicola and Barbara Carni, and Ray and Ruth Pigott; and his uncle, Joseph Carni.
Anthony was a graduate of Trinity University with a bachelor’s degree in electronics engineering, and also Officers Candidate School of Blacksburg, Va.
He was on active duty in the Army and in the Virginia National Guard for the past 20 years, where he achieved the rank of captain. Anthony worked at American Solutions Systems, a government contracted engineering agency, as an electronics engineer.
Anthony is also survived by several aunts and uncles, Carole and Joseph Gouzd, Elizabeth Alvaro, Joanna Messina, Mary Jo and Edward DeVito, Julia DeVito, James Carni, Barbara and Dan Lusk; and numerous cousins.
He attended the River of Life Church in Thornburg, Va., where a memorial service will be held Sept. 7.
In lieu of flowers, Anthony wanted donations to Wounded Warriors or no-kill animal shelters.
Services will also be held at Hutson Funeral Home in Farmington at 10 a.m. Saturday. Interment will be at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Farmington directly following the service, where the Marion County Veterans Council will conduct full military honors.
