Julia Faye Morrison Heffner, age 86, a lifelong resident of Fairmont, passed away on Friday (June 14, 2013) at the Genesis Fairmont Campus Pierpont Center.
She was born July 7, 1926, in Fairmont, to the late William Morrison and Pearl Thompson Morrison Byer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bud” Heffner.
Mrs. Heffner’s survivors include her two children, Richard and Michael; her daughter-in-law, Jan L. Woodward; her son-in-law, Jeff Travers; and her three grandchildren, Jacob, Neil and Emma Heffner.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Robert Heffner.
Mrs. Heffner attended Fairmont Senior High School and graduated in 1944. She also was a graduate of Fairmont State College in 1948.
While at FSC, she was a member of the Gamma Chi Chi sorority. She was recognized as an Outstanding Alumnae in 2001 by Fairmont State University.
Mrs. Heffner was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where she was active with the altar guild and frequently decorated the church with her artistic banners and themed, handmade holiday décor. She enjoyed gardening and painting with watercolors, and was an avid tennis player.
Mrs. Heffner was also a well-known local artist, crafter and miniaturist. She was a member of Mount Vernon Garden Club, Mountaineer Miniatures and P.E.O.
The family would like to thank the staff at Genesis Pierpont Center for their sensitive and caring support of Julia since February 2009.
Friends and family are invited to a memorial service to be held at the Grace Lutheran Church, 3rd Street and Gaston Avenue, on Sunday at 1 p.m. with Rev. Matt Holbert officiating. Private family graveside services will be held at a later date. The family has entrusted Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, with her services.
