Pauline Marie Hall, 95, of Meadowville-Kirt Community, died Sunday evening, March 9, 2014, in Mansfield Place, Philippi, following an extended illness.
She was born July 1, 1918, at Circleville, a daughter of the late Edwin West Alkire and the late Sarah Kathern (Mallow) Alkire. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Warren W. Parks; by her second husband, Leslie R. Danser; by her third husband, Judson C. Getchius; and by her forth husband, Alpha B. Hall.
Surviving are one daughter, Carol Ann Strait, Meadowville-Kirt Community; two grandchildren, David Warren Strait and wife Melinda, and Cheryl Lynne Bolyard and husband David, all of Philippi; four great-grandchildren, Chris Bolyard and wife Charity, Bruceton Mills, Jessica Willis and husband James, Crozet, Va., Josh Strait and wife, Jessica, and Sarah Strait, all of Philippi; three great-great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Lincoln Willis and Ansley Bolyard.
She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, John D. “Darrel” Strait; by two sisters, Virginia J. Jones and Irene M. Alkire; and by three brothers, Charles B. Alkire, William J. Alkire and James E. Alkire.
Mrs. Hall was a beautician and began a career in clothing sales with the Champion Stores, driving a truck full of clothing from coal camp to coal camp, where she would set up her display for several days at a time. She retired as manager of the Colony Shop in Fairmont.
She was a member of the Highland Avenue United Methodist Church in Fairmont and attended the Central Chapel United Methodist Church.
She was a gifted seamstress and enjoyed crocheting and sewing. She was an avid gardener and painter of portraits and still life. Well into her senior years, she enjoyed a daily regimen of exercise.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, from the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 385 South Main St., Philippi. The Rev. Kenny Kendall will officiate, and interment will follow in the Shinnston Masonic Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 3-9 p.m. today and from 9-11 a.m., the funeral hour, on Wednesday.
The family requests memorials in the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society.
