Don Rodeheaver

Don Parnell Rodeheaver, 86, of Fairmont, passed away on Sunday (March 9, 2014) at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

He was born on Dec. 27, 1927, in Hazelton, a son of the late Edward James and Marie Parnell Rodeheaver. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dolores “Doie” Shay Rodeheaver of Fairmont.

Mr. Rodeheaver graduated from Bruceton High School in 1944 and West Virginia University in 1948 where he obtained a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering. He was employed by the Monongahela Power Co. for 42 years and held several positions in Morgantown, Elkins, Parkersburg and Fairmont. He retired as director of engineering and construction in the Fairmont General Offices.

Prior to and while attending college, he worked for the Rodeheaver Lumber Co. in Hazelton.

Don was closely associated with West Virginia University’s Engineering Department and helped institute several joint activities between that institution and Monongahela Power Co. He was a member of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Academy at West Virginia University and a past member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. He was a registered professional engineer in the State of West Virginia and also a past member of the West Virginia and National Professional Engineering Societies. He was chosen Fairmont Engineer of the Year by that organization in 1970.

Don was a member of the Valley Chapel United Methodist Church in Fairmont, a past Rotarian in Elkins, and was a current member of the Rotary Club of Fairmont. He held memberships in the Morgantown Union Lodge No. 4 A.F. & A.M. and in the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, S.J., USA, Valley of Wheeling Orient of West Virginia.

Mr. Rodeheaver is survived by his three children and their spouses, Dana and Kim Shay of Fairmont, Dean and Kristen Rodeheaver of Green Bay, Wis., and Drema and Jay Ford of Fairmont; six grandchildren, Spencer Ford, Jessica Ford, Bridget Ford, Auri Anna Shay, Eliada Rodeheaver and Kaia Rodeheaver; three step-grandchildren, Merav, Tamar and Gidon Datan; a brother and his wife, Dale and Louise Rodeheaver of Ft. Pierce, Fla.; two sisters, Shirley Friend of Hazelton and Jane Harrison of Elk Ridge, Md.; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by a daughter, Donita Rodeheaver.

The family requests memorial donations be made to Valley Chapel United Methodist Church, 1511 Pleasant Valley Road, Fairmont, WV 26554.

The family will receive friends at Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, on Wednesday, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., and on Thursday, from 10-11 a.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Andrew Tennant officiating. The committal service will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery & Mausoleum in Fairmont.
