Mildred Turner

Mildred Sarah Turner, 86, of Fairmont, passed away Wednesday (April 9, 2014) at Fairmont General Hospital.

She was born in Marion County on March 7, 1928, a daughter of the late Albert Oscar and Letha May (Neel) Neel.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John M. “June” Turner Jr., in June 1984.

Mildred was a loving homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of Samaria Free Methodist Church and enjoyed attending Sagebrush Round Up to listen to country music. She also enjoyed quilting, gardening and spending time with her dog, Buddy.

She is survived by her three sons, Gerald Turner and his wife Frances of Fairmont, Charles Turner and his wife Donna of Hagans, and Michael Turner and his wife Lisa of Fairmont; one daughter, Carol Pheasant of Fairmont; 11 grandchildren, Misty Stahl, Teresa Cummings, Shelley Wolfe, Kristina Jenkins, Walter Pheasant and his wife Lori, Richard Pheasant, Lucretia Biafore and her husband Jason, Gerald Turner, Nicole King and her husband Derek, Charles Turner Jr. and Melanie Hunt; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving is a sister, Maxine Cowger of Ruben’s Run; and a close friend, Betty Vincent.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter in infancy, Delores Turner; a daughter, Lila Simpson; three brothers, Ray Neel, Arnold Neel and George Neel; four sisters, Dessie Neel, Kathleen Neel Jenkins, Jocie Neel Rager and Dorothy Neel Prunty; a son-in-law, Syd Pheasant; and a brother-in-law, Lemon Cowger.

Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 1-8 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 2 p.m. Saturday with Pastor Steve Stemple officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery in Fairmont.

Sam was born on Nov. 13, 1920, in Fairmont, the son of the late Vincent and Maria (Galiano) Pellerite. He was the loving husband of the late Teresa Mae “Terry” (Cirillo) Pellerite.

    Carmela retired from Westinghouse and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, also the Sharing and Caring group.
