Letta Cochran

Letta Louise Cochran, 88, of Fairmont, passed away Friday (April 18, 2014) at Fairmont General Hospital.

She was born in Fairmont, on July 19, 1925, a daughter of the late Teddy R. Davis Sr. and Dessie P. Moore Davis. Mrs. Cochran was preceded in death by her husband, Jarold C. “Beanie” Cochran.

Louise was Protestant by faith and a 1943 graduate of East Fairmont High School. She worked for the Owens-Illinois Co. in the decorating department, and later at Jo Ann Fabric. She enjoyed sewing and working with fabric and was an avid bowler earlier in her life. Mrs. Cochran was very active in the VFW Post 7048, where she served as secretary and treasurer, and also held many different state offices. She was also a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxillary.

Mrs. Cochran is survived by two sons, Brad Cochran and his wife Michelle of Beckley, and Wayne Cochran of Fairmont; her brother, Teddy R. Davis Jr. and his wife Frances of Fairmont; seven grandchildren, Brent Cochran of Maurertown, Va., Ellen Cochran of Beckley, Bobbi Irons of Fairmont, Jessica Cochran of Cary, N.C., Nicole Cochran of Morgantown, Renzy Cochran of Fairmont and Rhyan Cochran of Fairmont; as well as five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Larry Alan Cochran; and three sisters, Noma Belle Davis, Margaret Satterfield and Iva Dean Evans.

The family will receive friends at Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, on Monday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m with Evangelist Jonathan Stevens officiating. A committal service will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Fairmont.
