Rodney Malott

Rodney Alen Malott, 46, of Morgantown, passed away Tuesday (Feb. 26, 2013) at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

He was born in Parkersburg on July 25, 1966, a son of Richard Malott of Blacksville and the late Nadine (Scott) Copen.

Rodney was a heavy equipment mechanic by trade. He worked for Goodyear and Ziegler Companies. He proudly served in the U.S. Army National Guard. He loved to work on automobiles and going to NASCAR races. He was an avid sports fan of football, basketball and baseball. He was a Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife of 18 years, Robin (Marks) Malott of Ohio; one son, Rodney Clayton Malott of Wakemain, Ohio; and three daughters, Nicole Morris of Florida and Courtney Hamar and Brittany Hamar, both of Garfield Heights, Ohio.

Also surviving are his stepfather, Danny Copen of Vermilon, Ohio; three brothers, Timothy Malott and his wife Kelly of Vermilon, Ohio, Michael Malott of Monongah and Jamie Wells of Ohio; one sister, Christy Malott of Blacksville; a cousin, Carol Gasco of Blacksville; several nieces and nephews, including Josh, Justin, A.J., C.J. and Mason Malott; and his best friend, Tom Wilshire of Morgantown.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a son, Zachery Charles Malott, in November 2012.

Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 2 p.m. Friday with Pastor Matt Holbert officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery in Fairmont.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
