Robert Eugene Gibson, 80, of Martinsburg, passed away Saturday (March 2, 2013) after an extended illness.
He was born Oct. 25, 1932 in Fairmont, the son of the late Eugene H. and Mary M. Cordray Gibson.
He was a graduate of East Fairmont High School in Fairmont.
Mr. Gibson served in the Korean War with the U.S. Army.
He went to work for C&P Telephone in 1956 in Fairmont and was transferred to Martinsburg in 1967. He retired from AT&T in 1989 as area service manager for the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia and western Maryland.
He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, Elks Lodge No. 778, Civitan Club and Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Cardiac Golf League at Woodbriar Golf Course, of which he had many great friends.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Rosemary Bilotta Gibson; two sons, Jeffrey R. and his wife Lynn of Martinsburg, and Todd E. Gibson of Virginia Beach, Va.; one grandson, Nicholas Gibson of Virginia Beach, Va.; one brother, Donald R. Gibson and wife Jean of Fort Worth, Texas; one sister, Sandra Howard and husband Jim of Griffin, Ga.; sisters-in-law, Clara Allevato and husband Anthony of Warren, Mich., and Carole Warner of Durham, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews. He also was survived by many wonderful neighbors and friends.
He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, John Bilotta.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. R. Eric Hall IV as celebrant. Family will receive friends at Brown Funeral Home from 2-4 p.m. and from 7-9 p.m. Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Helping Hands of the Eastern Panhandle, 97 Meadowbrook Drive, Martinsburg, WV 25401; or Infusion Oncology Unit at the Dorothy McCormick Center.
