Gary Griffith

Gary Ray Griffith, 63, of Fairmont, passed away Wednesday (March 6, 2013) at Genesis Fairmont Campus Pierpont Center after a brief illness.

Gary was born on July 21, 1949, in Fairmont. Gary graduated from East Fairmont High School in 1967 and attended Fairmont State College before marrying his high school sweetheart Nancy Roach in 1970.

Gary was an Eagle Scout, a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and Acacia Lodge No. 157 A.F. & A.M. Before retiring, Gary worked at Bombardier Aerospace Corporation as document control clerk.

Gary is survived by Christopher Ray Griffith of Fairmont; Vicki Lee Porter and her husband George of Tampa, Fla.; his grandchildren, Claudia and Cara Porter also of Tampa; his in-laws, Linda Griffith and her husband Howard of Shelbyville, Ky.; Jim Roach and his wife Isabelle of Farmington, and Larry Roach of Clendenin; and Anna Dunkle, a friend of 50 years.

Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Kay Roach Griffith in 2010; his brother, Richard Wayne Griffith; his parents, Ray and Martha; and his in-laws, Carl and Katherine Roach.

The family will receive friends at the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday. The family will also receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Gateway United Methodist Church, 301 Diamond St., Fairmont, with the funeral following at 11 a.m. with Rev. Jeffrey Mayfield and Rev. Steve Meadows officiating. Interment will immediately follow the funeral at Mt. Zion Cemetery & Mausoleum. Acacia Lodge No. 157 A.F. & A.M. will conduct Masonic Ritualistic services at graveside. Memorial contributions may be made to Ford Funeral Home to defray funeral costs with any remainder donated in Gary’s memory to Hospice Care Corp.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
