Eugene H. Utt, 86, went home to be with the Lord on Friday (Dec. 6, 2013).
He was born in Holloway, Ohio, and raised in Fairmont. He and his wife of 54 years, Madalean H. Utt, who predeceased him in 2001, raised their family of three boys in Pittsburgh, Pa.
He spent almost 30 years of his working career with U.S. Airways, where he retired as a lead foreman for ground equipment. In retirement, he spent his winters in Florida, and the majority of summers in Pennsylvania.
He was a member of the Church of Christ, and attended the Jupiter-Tequesta Church of Christ while in Florida, and the Clarion Church of Christ while in Pennsylvania.
Eugene was a very caring and giving husband and father, and was always there with a helping hand for family, friends and neighbors. Encounters with him seemed to always include a smile, word of encouragement and sense of humor that helped to lighten a burden and put a sense of perspective on living life.
He was the son of the late Thurman Utt and Pearl Jones Campbell of Fairmont, and, in addition to his wife, was predeceased in death by his son, Dennis E. Utt; a sister; and three brothers.
Survivors include his sons, Kevin W. Utt of Fredericksburg, Va., and Bentley H. Utt of Hobe Sound, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may call today and Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont. A service will be held there on Saturday at 10 a.m., followed by a burial at Grandview Memorial Gardens. Officiating will be evangelist Mark Jones.
