Joseph Flori Jr., “Pappy Joe,” 89, of Shadyside, Ohio, died Sunday (July 7, 2013) at Liza’s Place, Wheeling.
He was born Dec. 24, 1923, in Summysides, Pa., a son of the late Joseph and Maria Bosetti Flori Sr.
Joseph was a retired employee of Olin-Mathesion (Conalco) Corp., a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, American Legion Post No. 521, both of Shadyside, USWA Local 5760 and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine V. Fabiano Flori, in January 2003; a brother, Albert Flori; and a sister, Lena Della Mae.
Surviving are two daughters, Deborah (Donald) Ward and Teresa (Mark) Liberati, all of Shadyside; a sister, Ida Hershman of Rivesville; three grandchildren, Leslie Ward of Shadyside, Angela Liberati of Columbus, Ohio, and Mario (Karly Jones) Liberati of Barnesville, Ohio; a great-grandson, Jenner Joseph Liberati of Barnesville; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 3-8 p.m. today at Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Home & Crematory, 3900 Central Ave., Shadyside. Funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Samuel Saprano as celebrant. Burial will follow in Powhatan Cemetery. Belmont County Council of American Legions will conduct full military rites at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. today followed by a vigil service at 7:45 p.m.
