Margaret Poling

Margaret Josephine Poling, 95, of Montana Mines Community, Fairmont, passed away Tuesday (Feb. 4, 2014), at her home, surrounded by her loving family following an extended illness.

She was born in Monongalia County on April 30, 1918, a daughter of the late John S. and Dona L. (Goodnight) Phillips.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Wilbur Wayne Poling, in December 1976.

Margaret was a loving homemaker, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. In her earlier years, she worked at G.C. Murphy and Speedway Market. She was an active member of Victory Baptist Church and the church activities. She enjoyed camping, watching game shows on television, working crossword puzzles and spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by one son, James Poling and his wife Helen of Centerville, Ohio; two daughters, Patricia “Pat” Miller of Elyria, Ohio, and Linda Arbogast and her husband David of Montana Mines; 11 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Sarah Sterle, Leona Wilson, Dora Dugan, Jessie Casteel and Catherine Malone; six brothers, Howard Phillips, William Phillips, Charley Phillips, Russel Phillips, Arthur Phillips and Vernon Phillips; a son-in-law, Ken Miller; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 2-8 p.m. Friday and from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 2 p.m. Saturday with Pastor Bob Barker officiating. Interment will follow at Catawba Cemetery in Marion County.

The family would like to thank the employees and staff of Hospice Care for their wonderful care of Margaret during her illness, especially Lisa Moore, RN, and Holly Wilson, aide.
