John “Yash” Konopko

John “Yash” Konopko, 77, of Casto Street, Rivesville, passed away peacefully Sunday (Feb. 2, 2014) at his residence.

He was born Nov. 28, 1936, in Rivesville, the youngest son of the late Pete and Viola Schmidt Konopko.

Mr. Konopko was a Catholic by faith. He served as a coal miner with Loveridge mine — CONSOL.

Yash loved working in his vegetable garden, playing the guitar and accordion, cooking and going fishing. He loved animals, and will be missed by his family dog, Lacey.

Survivors include one brother, Leo “Pokey” Konopko; two nephews, Chester Konopko Jr. and his wife Kiki, and Joseph Husty Jr. and his wife Sharon; several nieces, Jenny Conn, Frances Stetz, Josephine Stetz, Vilie Dowdy and husband Bill, Dr. Catherine Konopko Cain, Jeanne Konopko Mahalick, Valerie Hershman and her husband Jim, Barbara Dorsey Potesta and her husband Tim, Vanessa Husty Underwood and her fiancé Paul Wells, Stephanie Husty Tennant and her husband Jay, and Delaina Pawlaski Kucish and her husband Dave; several great-nephews, Eddie Mahalick, Dave Mahalick, Mike Mahalick, Larney Cain, Justin Underwood, Kenny Underwood, Freddie Toothman, Jimmy Hershman II, Justin Hershman, Joey Potesta, Josh Potesta, Patrick Conn and Terry Gill; and several great-nieces, Wendi Boggs, Lori Puhala, Allyson Kramer, Heather Hershman, Tina Mathews, Cathy Cornell, Jaclynn Furgason, Diandra Hannah, Cathy Cesna and Tina Gill, and their spouses and children.

Friends may call at Ford Funeral Home, DeGarmo Chapel, Jasper Street, Rivesville, from 10-11 a.m. today. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. today with the Rev. Stanley Merrifield officiating. Burial will follow in Arnettsville Cemetery in Arnettsville.

The family requests that all memorial donations be made to the Marion County Humane Society, P.O. Box 905, Fairmont, WV 26554.
