Betty Cale

Betty Jean Cale, 83, passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior and Lord on Friday (April 12, 2013) at the home of her daughter. Betty had been on Hospice care for one week.

She was the daughter of the late Lee Donald Shelton and Gladys Curry Shelton. Betty was born Aug. 27, 1929, in Fairmont and lived there until moving to New Market, Va., in 2012.

On March 23, 1949, she married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Edward Warren Cale.

She is the mother of daughter Susan Cale Teter and her husband Gary of New Market, Va., and to son John Edward Cale of Morgantown. She was a loving grandmother to Jacob Teter and his wife Amanda, Jeremy Teter, and Hannah Teter Shepard and her husband Adam.

One of her most recent joys was the birth of great-grandson Elijah Edward Teter.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, James Lee Shelton and Elmer Fay Shelton; and grandson, Luke Elliott Teter.

Betty was a member of The Baptist Temple of Fairmont and was active in the women’s ministry attending circle meetings and Spring Rallies. She served on the Memorials Committee and as a deaconess. In the 1970s, she served as chairwoman of FISH, which was a program designed to help those in need of transportation to doctor’s visits, the grocery store, etc. Homemaking, being a wife and mother and a good friend to many were her lifelong passions. She will be dearly missed.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Memorials Committee of The Baptist Temple, 430 Morgantown Ave., Fairmont, WV 26554; or to the Gideons International, PO Box 793, Mount Jackson, VA 22842.

The family will receive friends at Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday. The casket will lie in state from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday in The Baptist Temple Church, 430 Morgantown Ave., Fairmont. The funeral service will be held in the church at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Dr. Holley Faulkner officiating. The committal service will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Fairmont.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
