Patricia Ann Echols

Patricia Ann Echols, 68, of Grant Town, made her transition from this life Saturday morning (April 20, 2013) at the Tygart Genesis Healthcare Facility.

She was born April 22, 1944, in Fairmont, the first of five children born to the late Mildred Hardy Echols and Theodore Echols Sr.

She loved life and enjoyed planning and celebrating family events and spending quality time with her family that extended to friends in the community. Her specialty was caring and sharing. She was also unique in her ability to comfort, nurture and show compassion; a true friend to those she befriended.

Patricia graduated from Fairview High School in 1962 and relocated to Milwaukee, Wis., later moving to Brooklyn, N.Y. There she was employed by the United States Postal Service for 20 years before retiring on disability and returning to Grant Town.

She was one who exhibited great faith and love of God. A longtime member of the Mt. Beulah Baptist Church, she enjoyed singing in the choir and was a faithful member of the Mission Circle. She had a flare fo the dramatic and was instrumental in bringing to life characters in plays and skits for special programs presented by the church.

An avid sports fan, she enjoyed watching tennis, baseball and especially basketball, of which the Los Angeles Lakers was her favorite team. Her favorite pastimes included baking, quilting, playing board games, puzzles and the soaps.

To reflect and cherish her memory are her daughter, Sharon Echols of Grant Town; two brothers, Theodore Echols Jr. and Randolph Echols, both of Grant Town; one sister, Alverta (Stanley) Taylor of Cleveland, Ohio; two grandchildren, Shain T. Echols and Whitney Echols, both of Fairmont; four great-grandchildren, Shain II, Crasean, Calissa Echols and Paris McClendon, all of Fairmont; four aunts, Betty Bland of Springfield, Mass., Barbara Shain of California, Eleanor Lee of Fairmont and Carolyn Hardy of New York; one niece, Tracey Taylor, and one nephew, Stanley Taylor Jr., both of Cleveland, Ohio; two great-nieces, Tamiyah Taylor and Aliya Cochran, both of Cleveland, Ohio; two step-nieces, Kenyetta (Ricky) Samuels and Josette Bolling, both of Atlanta; and numerous cousins and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Lambert Echols; and one sister-in-law, Denise Echols.

Friends may call at the Mt. Beulah Baptist Church in Grant Town, from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will be held at the church at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Nelson Staples officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens.

The JG Lampkin Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
