Frank Thobois

Frank Octave Thobois, 89, of Ice Street, Fairmont, formerly of Worthington, passed away Monday (June 17, 2013) at his residence.

He was born Jan. 25, 1924, at Four States, son of the late Henry F. and Caroline L. Thobois.

He is survived by a son, Michael Frank Thobois of Fairmont; two grandsons, Michael Frank Thobois II of Morgantown, and Richard Shawn Thobois and his wife Angela of Disputanta Va.; a great-granddaughter, Autumn Storm Thobois of Fairmont; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Violet Jean Bowers Thobois, on June 19, 1981; two sisters, Janie Iaquinta and Sadie Demus; and three brothers, Octave, Henry and Paul Thobois.

He was a retired coal miner, having worked at Consolidated Coal Co. No. 20 mine at Four States, retiring in February 1986. His hobbies included fishing and hunting. He served in CCCs in his younger days in the state of Nevada.

Friends may call at Masters Funeral Home from 2-8 p.m. Thursday in Mannington. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home with Pastor Paul Mitchell officiating. Interment will be at Mannington Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Hospice Care for all the great care given to their father and grandfather in his time of illness.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
