Douglas Sammons

Douglas Nichols Sammons, 67, of Colfax Community, Fairmont, died Saturday (May 3, 2014) at his residence.

He was born Dec. 13, 1946, in Colfax, a son of the late Betty Irene Nichols Sammons Blosser. He is survived by his wife, Janet Marie Sammons of Colfax.

He is survived by two sons and two daughters-in law, Michael and Jodi Sammons of Fairmont, and Justin and Carrie Fazio of Shinnston; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Rachael and Colin Dodd of Lake Floyd Community, Shanna and Paul Miller of Fairmont, and Stacie Cutright of Tampa, Florida; two sisters, Linda Lugar of Connecticut and Cinda Sammons of Pasadena, Maryland; and 14 grandchildren.

Mr. Sammons was a former claims investigator for the West Virginia Division of Highways with 30 years of service. He was Methodist by faith, a 1964 graduate of East Fairmont High School and served in the United States Army. Doug was a former volunteer and president of the Fairmont Little League Association and enjoyed fishing, camping and NASCAR racing. He formerly held memberships with the Fairmont Fraternal Order of Eagles, Fairmont B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge 294, American Legion and the Salem V.F.W. Post.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 122 South High St., Morgantown.

The family will receive friends at the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. only. A private committal service will be held at a later time. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.FORDFUNERALHOMES.com.
