Jimmy Biafore

James Joseph “Jimmy” Biafore, faithful servant and friend to every man and creature, departed this life Saturday (July 13, 2013).

He was born July 20, 1964, a beloved son to Mary Dorazio Biafore and the late Dominick Joseph Biafore.

Jimmy was an active participant for many years in the ARC, now known as the Disability Action Center (DAC). He was a Special Olympian medalist, receiving gold medals in bocce and shot put, among others. He graduated from White School and attended the Opportunity Workshop (Op Shop).

Jimmy had a unique zest for life and was especially interested in music and theater. He had a lifelong love of books and never gave up his quest to learn to read. Jimmy’s inquisitive and loving nature took him beyond many preconceived boundaries. He was rarely seen without his mother, who was his devoted attendant and biggest fan. Jimmy especially enjoyed his annual costume-themed birthday parties, which concluded with fireworks that he selected each year for the occasion. Jimmy will be best remembered for his kind soul and outgoing personality. He was an inspiration to his family and to many who crossed paths with him.

He is survived by his mother, Mary D. Biafore; his devoted brother and sister-in-law, Nicky Joe and Sherri Davis Biafore; a sister, Theresa Marie Copney; an especially close niece and caregiver, Lyndsay Alayne Biafore; an especially close nephew and caregiver, Ray Alexander Copney; two loving nephews, Matthew Joseph Biafore and William Michael Copney; two great-nephews, Zaden Andrew and Zarian Alexander Copney; and a great-niece, Breauna Renae Copney.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his father and an instrumental grandmother, Assunta “Minnie” Dorazio.

Friends may call at Ross Funeral Home, 801 Fairmont Ave., Fairmont, from 11 a.m. to noon today. Services will be held at noon today at the funeral home with the Rev. Michael Richards officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Charles Florian Davis, Matthew Joseph Biafore, Ray Alexander Copney, William Michael Copney, Daniel Lee Biafore and Carl Anthony Lavorata.

The family would like to express their love and appreciation to Jimmy’s dedicated and loyal caregivers, Irene Martin, Joni Bartholow, Debbie Barker, Amedisys Hospice and the REM Mentor network.

Memorial donations may be made to the Disability Action Center, 102 Benoni Ave., Fairmont, WV 26554; or the OP Shop, 316 Columbia St., Fairmont, WV 26554.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
