Emma Jane Snyder

Emma Jane Snyder, 92, of Fairmont, passed away Monday (July 15, 2013) at her home.

She was born in Fairmont on May 29, 1921, a daughter of the late Adelphia (Hill) Riggins and Guy Riggins.

Emma Jane is survived by her husband of 72 years, Virgil Snyder.

She was a graduate of Fairmont Senior High School in 1940. She first worked at Westinghouse for nine years. She retired from Owens-Illinois Glass Plant with 23 years of service in the selecting department. In her earlier years of life, she enjoyed crafts and ceramics.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Robin Snyder and his wife Evelyn of Moatsville; two very special grandchildren, Chrystal Snyder of Fairmont and Allen Snyder of Fairmont; two great-grandchildren, Maya Snyder and Brady Snyder; several nieces and nephews; and many close friends and good neighbors.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Snyder was preceded in death by two sisters, Gertrude List and Alberta Morley.

Friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 2-8 p.m. today and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Ray Crabtree. Interment will follow at Bridgeport Cemetery.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
