Mary Carpenter

FAIRMONT — Mary Emma (Travis) Carpenter, 90, of Rivesville, formerly of Barrackville, passed away Tuesday morning (July 16, 2013) at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

She was born in Fairmont on Jan. 24, 1923, a daughter of the late Clyde Travis and Ada (Yost) Vincent Travis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Rouse Carpenter, in July 1980.

Mary was a lifelong member of Barrackville Church of Christ. During World War II she worked as a welder in the Baltimore Ship Yard. She had also previously worked at Westinghouse. Mary was a dedicated wife, homemaker and mother. She loved her family and her church family.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Donald James and Terry Carpenter of Rivesville; four grandchildren, Danielle Lamont and her husband Mario of Mission, British Columbia, Canada, James Carpenter of Washington state, Molly Carpenter of Rivesville and Jennifer Ozzbourne of Fairmont; six great-grandchildren, Cheyenne Sanders, Billie Carpenter, Celeste Lamont, Colin Lamont, Gabrielle Lamont and Kyla Lamont; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Carpenter was preceded in death by her brothers, Clifton Travis, Carlos Travis, Edison Travis, Rex Travis and Alvy Vincent; and her sisters, Kathleen Wagner, Gladys Branner and Gertrude Trippett.

Friends may call at Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 5-8 p.m. today and from 10-11 a.m. Thursday. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Evangelist Steve Snyder officiating. Interment services will follow at Pisgah Cemetery in Monongalia County.
