— Thomas Lee Snider, 77, of Fairmont, passed away early Tuesday morning (March 5, 2013)  in his residence.  

He was born Nov. 22, 1935, in Fairmont, son of the late Joe R. and Mary Melissa Robertson Snider.     

Mr. Snider was a Methodist by faith. He was a graduate of East Fairmont High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1958, serving on the USS Massey and the USS Monterey.  

Mr. Snider retired from Nickles Bakery of Fairmont as a driver for 11 years. He earlier was employed at Fairmont Box Plant and Westinghouse Corp. of Fairmont, and was a coal miner. He was a driver for Wonderbread and Ketterings Bakeries. Mr. Snider also owned and operated Shirley’s Pastries and Tom’s Big Buns on Speedway Avenue in Fairmont. He was a volunteer driver for the VA Hospital and for Hospice Care in Fairmont for more than 11 years .

Survivors include his wife, Shirley May Carpenter Snider of Fairmont, to whom he was married for 57 years; four sons, Mark Snider of Winter Haven, Fla., Matthew Snider of Fairmont, Clinton Snider and his friend Scarlett Stevens, both of Fairmont, and Morgan Snider of Fairmont; two daughters, Debra Barker and Holly Snider, both of Fairmont; 13 grandchildren, William, Anthony, Travis and Gerald Barker, Britney Barker, John Thomas Snider, Nicki Petters, Jamie Petters, C.J. Snider, Mykiella Stevens, Dustin Snider, Taleisha Snider and Samatha Hoopengarner; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Joe and Nancy Snider of Fairmont; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Thomas Lee Snider, Jr.

Friends may call at Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.  Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 1 p.m. Friday with Pastor Bill Toothman officiating. The Marion County Veterans will conduct flag-folding services in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery and Mausoleum in Fairmont.
