Donald Sypolt Sr.

Donald Lee Sypolt Sr., 72, of Fairmont, passed away peacefully Monday (July 22, 2013) at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Fairmont on Nov. 6, 1940, a son of the late Francis “Jack” E. Sypolt and Elsie P. (Vandergrift) Sypolt.

Donald was a carpenter by trade. He was employed by Coca-Cola Bottling Co. and also Industrial Contractors for nine-and-a-half years. He was a member of the Carpenters Union, retiring in 2002. He enjoyed playing cards, hunting and fishing and was an avid outdoorsman.

He is survived by his partner, Linda Thompson of Fairmont; two sons, Greg Steven Sypolt of Fairmont and Donald “Casey” Sypolt Jr. and his wife Lisa of Fairmont; two daughters, Kathy Lee Del-Toro and her husband Eric of Georgia, and Tricia Lou Conrad and her husband Bob of Fairmont; a step-daughter, Annette Thompson of Clarksburg; 12 grandchildren, Katlyn Sypolt, Trevor Sypolt, Taylor Sypolt, Hunter Sypolt, Zachery Clark, Megan Steptoe, Joshua Clark, Tanner Warren, John Del-Toro, Sarah Del-Toro, James Del-Toro and Scott Conrad; and four great-grandchildren, Colby Steptoe, Isabella Perry, McKenzie Clark and Chloe Clark.

Also surviving are three sisters, Gloria Twyman of Fairmont, Flora Eddy and her husband Wayne of Fairmont, and Rita Snyder of Michigan; and a sister-in-law, Laura Sypolt.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Remington Coal Sypolt; four brothers, Ralph E. Sypolt, Howard D. Sypolt, Paul E. Sypolt and Ted Sypolt; one sister, Doris Jo Rutherford; and two brothers-in-law, Richard Snyder and Glenn Twyman.

Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, today from 1-9 p.m. and Thursday from 10-11 a.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jim Zinn officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Fairmont.

The family would like to especially thank the Monongalia General Hospital and staff, Dr. Lisa Flower of Fairmont and also Hospice Care and staff for all of their loving care of Donald throughout his illness.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
