Louis John Davis

Louis John Davis, 78, of Fairmont, passed away Friday (June 20, 2014) at Ruby Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Wheeling April 26, 1936, the son of the late Richard Davis and Ethel May Campbell Davis.

Louis is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Ruth Ann Poole Davis of Fairmont. He is also survived by one daughter, Sonja Elaine Davis Curtis and husband John of Fairmont; one daughter-in-law, Melanie Jean Turner Davis of South Carolina; one brother, Joy Fredrick Davis of Arizona; four sisters, Nina Davis Moore of Wyoming, Mary Ruth Davis Scholl of Iowa, Ethel “Pat” Dobbs and husband Harry of South Carolina, and Darlene Davis of North Carolina; one granddaughter, Amanda L Davis; and two grandsons, Zachary A. Davis and Kyle Drummond; plus numerous loving nieces and nephews; and his best buddy, dog Deacon.

Louis is preceded in death by one son, Jonathan Eric Davis; and three brothers, Ralph Richard Davis Jr., Thomas A. Davis and David M. Davis.

Louis graduated from Shinnston High School, class of 1954, and from West Virginia University. He also attended the universities of Maryland and Virginia. He was a paratrooper in the U.S. Army. He was member of 101st Airborne station in Munich, Germany, “55 -58.” He was a smoke jumper with the US Department Interior in California, “1959-1960.” He Joined CIA in 1961, trained special forces in Vietnam 1963-1965; 1967 Bangkok; 1968-1973 trained special forces in Laos; and joined the DEA as a special agent in 1974 until he retired in 1986.

He moved to Dallas, Texas, in 1986 and was vice president of security for General Dynamics. In 1991, Louis retired and moved to his beloved West Virginia, and ran for governor of West Virginia in 2000 and 2004. Louis loved to travel and spoke five different languages. Louis loved to spend most of his time with family, especially his wonderful grandkids. Above all, Louis was a true patriot!

In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Marion County Humane Society, Old White Rock Road, Rt. 19, Fairmont, WV 26554.

Family will receive friends today from 2-8 p.m. at Dorsey Funeral Home, 701 South Pike St., Shinnston. Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ben Guido officiating. Interment will follow in the WV National Cemetery; military honors will be accorded by the VFW Memorial City Post# 3081, American Legion Taylor County Post # 12, Central WV DAV Chapter 24 and their auxiliaries.
